Exit A1 out of Sheung Wan MTR station takes you onto Des Voeux Road Central near to the busy tramway terminus in the heart of Western District.
The Western Market building at the end of the road is a tourist destination, but the small shops on the surrounding streets are far more interesting to the more adventurous visitors.
The trams are the cheapest form of transport in Hong Kong, but with no air conditioning and small uncomfortable seats, they should be used just for the right occasion.
The trams fight for space with the buses and red taxis, but today is a Sunday so there are few private cars on this street today.
Because it is so hot today, pedestrians endeavour to stay under cover while waiting to cross the roads.
Despite the shiny new buildings, Sheung Wan maintains many of the features associated with 'old' Hong Kong. There are plenty of shops selling dried goods and medicinal cures, and even the younger generation will shop here for traditional snacks.
